As a mom of 5 and a do-it-yourself enthusiast, Shannon @thehouseholdreview is no stranger to tackling a difficult task. In fact, she welcomes the challenge by embracing her motto: "All you have to do is try. You may be amazed at what you can accomplish!" This Pennsylvania-based creator recently transformed her basement with a fireplace media wall featuring the Touchstone Sideline Elite® Pro 50 Smart Electric Fireplace.
“I wanted a space where the kids (or mom) could retreat to and still have that cozy feeling we have in our living room upstairs,” Shannon explains. “The fireplace also covers just enough square footage of heat so that we do not have to turn on our heat for the whole basement to warm up the small space we are cozied up in!”
A first-time accent wall builder, Shannon started with a simple bump out wall to recess the 50-inch Sideline Elite Pro and TV. She created a full custom media wall with built-in cabinets, shelving and a moulded fireplace surround, painted in a crisp white finish.
Shannon shares, “I had so many firsts with this project! It was my first attempt at building a wall, drywalling, and spackling! The configuration for how to build in the TV and fireplace inserts into the wall was a challenge but with lots of checking, rechecking, and calming myself... I was able to tackle it and get the job done! I am SO proud of this project! People cannot believe I did this myself!"
